You’re lying in the darkness, thoughts flooding your mind, trying not to focus on getting to sleep because that just pushes it further away. Then you start to think about the fact that you need to be awake in 4 hours time and that you haven’t slept for a single second. You start to imagine that dull, throbbing feeling of exhaustion that’s going to haunt you throughout the day tomorrow. The anxiety rises up and sleep is pushed away even further as your mind races.
Sound familiar?
This was me every single night for 5 years. I tried everything. Literally everything. From prescription medication to melatonin, to home remedies like camomile tea and warm milk.
I won’t lie: prescription medication worked, but it caused me to develop a dependance; an unhealthy addiction that I just didn’t want in my life. Not only that, but the sleep wasn’t real. It was synthetic and unsatisfying and I still often felt groggy the next day.
I was at a loss. I didn’t want to continue knocking myself out with tablets, nor did I want to lie awake in churning restlessness, waiting for my mind to get as tired as my body and allow me some rest.
So yeah...
Sleep is pretty important!
And many of us aren’t getting the amount we need. I know I wasn’t. My search for a solution eventually led me to the fringes of technological research where a group of scientists were working on a device that they claimed would solve the insomnia problem for good.
I was skeptical. Very skeptical. I was always of the belief that technology was one of the major causes of insomnia and now these guys were telling me that an electronic device was the solution? I didn’t believe it.
Until I tried it.
To say that this little device changed my life would be the understatement of the century. I have never fallen asleep so quickly. I have never slept so deeply. I have never felt as completely rejuvenated upon waking up.
It’s called Dodow, and if you struggle to fall asleep: it’s your dream come true.
So...
What is Dodow?
"Dodow a small, round device that emits a slow, rhythmic halo of blue light that retrains your brain to fall into a deep sleep quickly, naturally and peacefully.
Dodow is scientifically designed to quickly quiet your busy mind, slow your breathing and relax your body - swiftly lulling you into a deep, peaceful slumber."
That’s the sales pitch at least. But I’m not here to pitch you. I’m here to share my living, breathing experiences with you: the experiences of someone who suffered from sleep deprivation for 5 years.
I conducted a comprehensive 4 week experiment, keeping a detailed sleep diary every night for 28 days. Here are some of the entries from that diary.
Night 1:
Arrival
The device arrived at my door this morning. Finally. I was lucky enough to be selected as a tester for one of the prototype versions of Dodow. I had to write numerous motivational emails to the lab to get selected but I was finally approved.
The box was small, square and elegantly designed with a simple slogan placed below the Dodow logo: “Fall asleep faster.”
I opened the box and removed the Dodow device from the packaging. My first thought was: “this feels like an Apple device”. It has that same stylish design and immediate desirability.
The device is white and round with a translucent surface. It is from this surface that the calming halos of blue light glow. The device is next to me as I type this and I’m about ready to settle in for the night. I’ll share results tomorrow. Sweet dreams! (I hope).
Night 2:
A New Beginning
Okay, let me not get too ahead of myself. I slept great last night but it could have been a coincidence. Maybe it was a psychological thing. Let me explain.
So I placed the device on my bedside table and lightly tapped the face of the Dodow to let it know I was ready to sleep. I lay back and stared at the ceiling as instructed.
Slowly and rhythmically a blue circle of light started growing and shrinking on the ceiling.
I inhaled as the halo grew larger and exhaled as it grew smaller.
The next thing I remember is waking up in the morning. As I said, I don’t want to get too ahead of myself. Gonna test this out over the next few days and deliver another report soon.
Night 8:
Coincidence? I think not.
I’m truly amazed. I feel like the tenage me all-over again. I have slept soundly for 7 nights in a row!
The reason I waited so long to complete this entry is that I wanted to be completely sure. I wanted to remove all doubt from my own mind. I did all of the things I shouldn’t have done before bed:
I watched Netflix while scrolling through Instagram, ate cheese and even did a ton of pushups to get my heart racing before hitting the sack.
But no matter what I tried, I fell asleep in under 8 minutes. As soon as Dodow started glowing, my mind started slowing and I was out before I knew what hit me. Without a single pill! I know I’m sounding like a shill right now but this is like a miracle for me.
Night 24:
A Whole New World
I’m done being scientific. Dodow works. It works better than a whole bar of Xanax and I want the whole world to know.
I just got back from conducting an interview in Hong Kong. That trip usually destroys me with jet lag. Not this time.
I took Dodow with me (its small enough to take anywhere and works on batteries) and used it nightly. I didn’t have trouble falling asleep once. For me, this is final confirmation that Dodow is a game-changer for sleep deprivation.
I would always struggle to fall asleep but it was worst in new environments and after long flights. I used to have to hammer myself with sleeping pills to get even a few hours of sleep.
The fact that Dodow got me snoring after a 23 hour flight that crossed 21 time zones without any medication is a testament to its effectiveness.
Night 28:
It Almost Feels Normal. Almost.
Getting a full night of rest is starting to feel normal now. I still love falling asleep quickly and waking up rested, but it’s almost like I’ve come to accept it as normal.
Amazingly enough, I’ve managed to fall asleep without my Dodow on a couple of nights. I guess it really does retrain your brain.
After the fifth night without it, I did struggle to fall asleep, but instead of popping a pill, I tapped my Dodow and the calming halo had me in a slumber within minutes.
At this point I’m very confident that Dodow is going to change many lives when it becomes available to the public. I hope this day comes soon so that more people can enjoy the freedom and peace that comes with a good, drug-free sleep.
